What should you expect on the day of your pet’s surgery?

At Simon Veterinary Surgical, we preform surgeries Monday – Thursday, starting at 8 am and ending when all of our patients have been cared for. That way, we stay consistent with each of our clients and you can know exactly what to expect when you bring your pet to SVS.

So how does our process work? Let’s dive in!

Drop off. We ask all of our clients to drop off their pets at our hospital at 8 am on your scheduled surgery day. If you can’t make it right at 8am, that’s okay too – it just means your pet’s surgery will come later in the queue for that day.

When you arrive, give us a call or text. One of our techs will come out to meet you and your pet. You will be asked to review and sign an Anesthesia Consent Form, acknowledging the inherent risks associated with anesthetic, treatment, and surgical procedures. Then, you can feel free to grab a coffee or run some errands.

Text message updates. While your pet is with us, our practice manager Nathan goes above and beyond by sending you text message updates on your pet’s surgery. He will also let you know what time your pet will be ready for pick-up.

Pick up and discharge. During the discharge process, our staff will discuss your pet’s post-operative care, including:

  • Day-of-surgery aftercare

  • Orthopedic surgery rehabilitation instructions

  • Recheck appointment schedule

  • Prescription instructions, if applicable

  • Test results, if applicable

  • Reintegration of patient to a multi-pet household, if applicable

Your pet will also be sent home with:

  1. Written post-operative instructions (also available on the SVS website)

  2. Written at-home rehab schedule plan (also available on the SVS website)

  3. A cone / e-collar

  4. Clinically formulated supplements, for orthopedic surgeries

  5. Pain meds, if applicable

Customer service. If you have any questions or concerns following the surgery, SVS offers phone and text message customer service until 9pm on all surgery days. Just give us a holler and we’ll be happy to help!
